Game three was essentially a must win for the Grizzlies and they needed to get off to a good start. The first quarter was full of runs as the Spurs had a 5-0 lead which was followed up by a 8-0 Memphis run to go up 8-5. The Grizzlies struggled throughout the middle of the quarter as the Spurs went on an 11-2 run to go up 16-10. The Grizzlies made some plays to get open looks but they weren’t all falling but they ran pretty good offense and held the Spurs to 6-17 from the field. Mike Conley, Marc Gasol, and James Ennis each had five points in the first quarter as the game was tied up at 21 after the first quarter.
Both teams started off hot to open up the quarter as the Grizzlies got out to a 30-28 lead. Zach Randolph was huge in the quarter scoring 11 of his 13 first half points in the second quarter. Spurs attacked all half and got to the free throw line shooting 10-15 from the stripe while the Grizzlies made 3 of 4 from the line. Wayne Selden and Andrew Harrison hit back to back threes to put the Grizz up 42-41. They then made some nice plays to end the half and went into the halftime break up 50-46. The Grizzlies shot 21-40 from the field and 5-12 from deep.
The Grizzlies got going early in the third quarter and they never looked back. They made shot after shot including multiple and ones to go along with a few three pointers as well. The Grizzlies also played great defense which limited Kawhi Leonard to just two shot attempts the whole second half. The Grizzlies stay hot the whole quarter while the Spurs continued to struggle as they ended the third with a 81-63 lead.
Mike Conley opened up the quarter with a couple of nice floaters to get the offense going early on in the fourth quarter. Wayne Selden had a monster slam dunk to really get the crowd rocking which put the team up 89-67. The Spurs then went on a quick little run to cut the deficit to 16 but the Grizzlies immediately responded with a couple baskets of their own which put the game away. The game never was in question the rest of the way as Memphis was in complete control. The Spurs backups made some plays in garbage time which made the game seem closer than it actually was. The Grizzlies won game three 105-94.
The big three of the Grizzlies were phenomenal with each scoring over twenty points. Zach Randolph ended with 21 points and eight rebounds and he really had a huge impact on the game as the Spurs had no answer for him. Marc Gasol had 21 points as well to go along with his six boards and three assists, he made two three pointers in the game. Mike Conley had twenty four points and eight assists which included shooting two for five from behind arc. Wayne Selden also had a good game scoring 10 points while also playing some good defense on Kawhi. JaMychal Green had eight points and six boards as well. The Grizzlies shot 39-77 from the floor which is just over 50% while shooting 9-22 from deep. They also made 18 of 20 shots from the free throw line. They got out rebounded by nine but it didn’t seem to matter as they did a great job of scoring in the paint. Game four is a game Memphis has to win and with another performance like this, there is no reason they won’t.
